Dr. Axtell earned his B.S. in Physical Education from Springfield College, where he competed in collegiate athletics, including baseball with international exhibition experience. He completed his M.S. in Physical Education at Indiana University and his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology at Ohio State University, where he worked with athletes in both medical and athletic settings.

In his free time, he enjoys downhill skiing, swimming, and recreational cycling.
